Job responsibilities*
The purpose of the Senior Accountant role is to perform the full cycle accounting for two business units of Travelers Financial Group. This includes preparing the monthly and annual financial statements, and the supporting working papers accurately and timely.
- Obtain a strong understanding of the business for the two business units
- Perform full cycle accounting for two business units of Travelers Financial Group – Transition and Restructuring Capital (Travelers Capital Corp. and its U.S. affiliate) and Investment in Secured Loans and Leases (Travelers Capital Private Credit Limited Partnership, and the GP)
- Reconcile the general ledger accounts including intercompany accounts for each entity
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting working papers within 10 business days after month end (management report)
- Prepare annual financial statements, notes to the financial statements and the supporting working papers
- Lead the year end audit/review process which includes resolving accounting issues, answering the auditors’/external accountants’ inquiries and preparing the appropriate working papers and supporting schedules
- Prepare variance analysis of the financial statements
- Work closely with the respective business leaders and the operations team
- Assist with business expansion and tax compliance in Canada and the U.S.
- Review semi-monthly payroll calculations to ensure they are accurate and processed on time
- Set up payments for deals and collect payments from customers
- Review accounts payable payment to ensure they are valid and accurate
- Prepare commodity and sales tax returns for Canada and the U.S.
- Assist with the preparation of corporate tax returns for Canada and the U.S. by preparing the relevant supporting schedules and gathering the required information.
- Assist with the preparation of T5013 Statement of Partnership Income
- Prepare monthly and quarterly Statistics Canada reports
- Assist in the annual budgeting process
- Adhere to the company’s policies and internal controls
- Prepare ad-hoc reports, other tasks and special projects, as required.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience*

- Works well under pressure to meet ongoing and overlapping deadlines within short time constraints
- Detail oriented with attention to details and a continuous improvement mindset
- Effective communication, organization and interpersonal skills
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office products
- Canadian CPA designation (CA, CGA, CMA and CPA) or equivalents required
- 5+ years of previous accounting experience in medium or large size companies
- Experience with financial reporting and generally accepted accounting principles including ASPE; knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP would be an asset
- Experience with payroll and provincial employment standards and regulations
- Experience in computerized accounting systems and internal controls
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or other mid-tier ERP, and Sage 50

Pay: $90,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
