We are seeking to add to our team with the hire of a Controller. This position will play a key role as a member of our Finance Team based in Calgary, Alberta.
Our successful candidate will be in charge of dealing with all financial activities for the company and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and standards. The Financial Controller will provide insights to support strategic decision-making and drive financial development, while directly reporting to the Chief Financial Officer.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to: general ledger, AR/AP, sales taxes, and financial reporting
- Manage quarterly and year-end financial audit activities and the annual corporate financial controls audit
- Establish (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, and annual basis
- Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the company’s procedures
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and monthly reporting packages to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested
- Lead and manage all general ledger accounting functions
- Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships
- Work with external auditors to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end
Qualifications
- Accounting designation (CPA), or equivalent
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with a portion of it being in a controller or accounting manager role
- Thorough knowledge of ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises)
- Understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis
- Self motivated and self directed
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all level of an organization
- Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results
- Experience in employee relationship building and performance management techniques
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with Microsoft Business Central (Dynamics) an asset
