Overview:
The EC Group is a group of Vancouver Island based construction companies. We are multi-facetted and diverse. The companies consist of residential, commercial and civil construction and project management, the supply and install of factory built homes and the supply and install of tongue and groove log structures.
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant/ Controller to join our team.
Reporting directly to Ownership, the Senior Accountant/Controller will work closely with ownership and management. They will be responsible for managing the financial operations of the Companies, provide leadership and coordination of the companies financial planning, budget management and debt financing. They will provide accurate and timely information to ownership and management, including analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting; ensure that the Companies accounting principles and practices are compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and governmental regulations as required
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in planning the objectives, methods and resource allocation of the companies, use these in preparation of financial forecasts and pro-forma statements
- Monitor and analyze monthly and quarterly operating results, provide timely and relevant reporting for internal and external purposes
- Administer and maintain the accounting system
- Create monthly cash flow projections
- Do time and journal (general ledger) entries
- Enter and administer payroll
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Job costing and invoicing
- Bank deposits and reconciliations
- Statutory reporting
- Do Source Deductions, GST and PST remittances
- Prepare financial analysis for job bidding and contract negotiations, work with Owners and Managers on pricing, costing, margin requirements and risk analysis
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal reporting requirements, serve as company contact for CRA and other regulatory bodies
- Direct and coordinate debt financing and debt service payments with external agencies
- Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments
- Manage the preparation of the annual year-end summary of financial activity and preparation of working papers
- Work with external accountants on yearly notice to reader / review engagement and tax return preparation, and out of that, provide recommendations for procedural improvements
- Research, review, and report on special accounting projects during the year
- Effectively and professionally communicate with staff, peers, and the community
- Seek, accept, and respond to evaluative feedback from other peers/managers to improve performance
- Provide management with business news, industry-specific accounting updates and regulatory changes
- Provide the above in a professional and ethical manner of conduct
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Completion of professional accounting designation (CPA) program
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including GAAP
- Knowledge of computerized financial and accounting reporting systems
- Knowledge of federal and provincial financial regulations and other applicable agency regulations (Worksafe, Employment Standards)
- Able to work in Sage and Quickbooks
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite of Projects
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
- Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, budgets, and job profitability analysis
- Experience overseeing year-end performed by external accounting firms
- IT knowledge and skills would be an asset
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
