Role Overview
Reporting to the Director – Corporate Controller, the role will provide finance support for the Canadian operations. Along with internal financial operations for Canada our Luxembourg and Ireland back-office accounting functions have been outsourced to the team in Toronto. The incumbent will be in charge of general accounting activities for IFDS Canada such as balance sheet reconciliations, journal entry prep and control, financial statement preparation, cash flow and other statutory and management reporting. This role supports and maintains both accounting software (Sage300) and Concur applications for the three entities within the group. The Senior Accountant works as trusted partner to the Corporate Controller and providing assistance and guidance to the finance team members (AP, AR, billing & FP&A) on various systems, projects, analysis and payroll accounting functions.
This role is required to adhere to professional accounting ethical standards and personal conduct, demonstrating integrity throughout the execution of their accountabilities and duties.
Role Responsibilities

All aspects of general accounting for IFDS Canada

Payroll accounting and control with ADP payroll system
-
Handle all aspect of treasury and banking accounting and control.
- Discretionary spending accounting and control using SAP Concur cloud application

Regular maintenance of recurring entries as well as ad hoc accounting required by Controller

Foreign currency revaluation of foreign currency transactions
- Accountable for all internal controls and polices related to banking, balance reconciliations, payroll and journal entry control

Manage general accounting details to achieve extremely tight monthly close and reconciliation process

Sage 300 system maintenance and control for users & processes
-
Full accountability for capex spending and control using third party Fixed asset subledger application
- Prepare monthly statutory financial for review and critique with Corporate Controller and CFO

Take a leadership role in our annual external audit process as well as tax return support prep

Develop and improve full suite of existing HO general accounting policies and procedures that focus on key internal controls
Additional Responsibilities

Prepare monthly cash flow and balance sheet variance reporting.

Prepare the annual corporate tax provision supporting schedules.

Compile information for T106 reporting.

Annual Bank Compliance reporting.

Consolidate IFDS group entities banks information for annual US government banking compliance reporting.

Self-Assess, remit and file returns for taxes on Insurance premiums.

Support the controller with other ad-hoc requests
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting or Finance is desirable

Accounting designation (CPA)
-
3-5 years related experience in medium sized corporate accounting environment
- Experience using Sage 300 or similar general ledger/ERP system.

Advanced knowledge in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and data management & analysis
- Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills.

Self-starter, strong organizational skills to achieve strict monthly reporting timeline. timelines.

Looking for someone with the desire to learn and ambition to be promoted to Assistant Controller type role in 3-5 years.
- Technology or outsourcing services industry experience an asset
- Experience of using Office Connect/ Adaptive Reporting Tool or similar reporting analytical tools

Experience of using multi-currency general ledger systems.

Strong general accounting knowledge Experience of balance sheet account reconciliation, and control.

General HST, VAT and Income Tax knowledge & understanding an asset
- Good working knowledge of US GAAP accounting principles/practices.

Work Model
Please note that the new hire will be required to attend in-person training during the initial 4-6 weeks of onboarding at our 30 Adelaide Street East location. Following this, they will transition to our existing hybrid working model, with a minimum of one in-office day per week.
