Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Accountant / Assistant Controller to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management and accounting, with a preference for experience in real estate loans and investments. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cash flow management, and strategic financial planning to support our business objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the financial activities of three affiliated companies under the supervision of a CPA. All three companies are located in the US, and we welcome candidates from both the US and Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all aspects of financial accounting and reporting for three companies.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions for each company.
- Develop and maintain financial models to support real estate loan and investment activities.
- Monitor and manage cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity for operations and investment needs across all companies.
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll, tax filings, and remittances.
- Coordinate and assist with external audits and regulatory compliance activities.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management to support strategic decision-making.
- Manage relationships with banks, investors, and other financial institutions.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
- Prepare and present weekly financial reports to management.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in real estate finance and accounting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management roles.
- Proven experience in real estate loans and investments is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- MortCare in accounting software (huge plus)
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Sage) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and mentor a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Experience managing financial operations for multiple entities is a plus.
