Position Title: Payroll Specialist

Location: Toronto
Status: Fixed-term, Full-time 6 Months (Hybrid)
This fixed-term position is regarded as the payroll subject matter expert of the organization and accountable for the administration and accounting for CIRO’s payroll including benefits, payroll taxes and remittances, and compliance with government agencies and CIRO standards. This position will report to the Controller Director, Finance Operations (Compensation) in the Finance Department, and partners closely with Human Resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer payroll in compliance with regulatory bodies as well as CIRO policies
- Ensure the accurate processing of semi-monthly payroll in UKG Pro (formerly Ultipro)
- Calculation of payroll taxes and benefits as required
- Timely preparation of monthly remittances including pension contributions for employee and employer
- Reconciliation of year-end tax slips and government reporting
- Preparation of payroll and related accrual journal entries
- Monthly and quarterly reconciliation of payroll and benefits related GL accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy for the Income Statement and Balance Sheet, such as accrued bonus, vacation, severance, and other payroll related liability accounts
- Assist with preparation of month-end compensation analysis
- Calculation of labour rates for internal allocation purposes
- Support external audits by providing overview of controls and documentation as requested
- Maintain and update documentation regarding payroll processes and controls
- Key contact with Ultimate Kronos Group for processing support
- Key contact for employee inquires related to payroll, taxable benefits
- Other tasks as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in processing payroll and related accounting entries
- Degree in business administration or equivalent
- Accounting designation required
- Knowledge of UKG Pro payroll platform an asset
- Certified Payroll Manager (CPM)
Key Skills and Competencies:
- Subject matter expert on payroll rules and regulations governing all aspects of Canadian payroll
- Knowledge of Employment Standards
- Excellent Microsoft Excel and Word skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving and process improvement skills
