Senior Accountant
Accounting and Financial Management:
- Oversee and manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Ensure accurate posting and reconciliation of all property-related transactions in Yardi and QuickBooks.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS).
- Manage and reconcile tenant rent rolls, security deposits, CAM charges, and other receivables.
- Monitor loan and mortgage compliance, including tracking payments, interest schedules, and covenant requirements.
- Oversee cash flow management and forecasting for property operations.
Month-End and Year-End Processes:
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and intercompany reconciliations.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and variance analyses for management.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of year-end audits, working closely with external auditors.
Taxation and Compliance:
- Prepare and file GST/HST returns, ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
- Manage corporate income tax filings and liaise with tax advisors as needed.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, including reporting requirements for real estate entities.
Reporting and Budgeting:
- Develop, monitor, and update annual budgets and forecasts for all properties.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting on property performance to support decision-making.
- Maintain accurate records of capital expenditures and tenant reimbursements.
Team Collaboration and Leadership:
- Supervise and review the work of junior accountants, including offshore bookkeeping staff.
- Act as a point of contact between accounting staff and property management teams to address operational issues.
- Train junior staff on Yardi and QuickBooks systems and ensure adherence to company accounting policies.
