JOB RESPONSABILITIES
The position of Accountant will provide routine accounting support to the Finance Team. This will be an onsite-based position at one of our Toronto Projects.
The Accountant key responsibilities are:
Full Cycle Accounting including AP & AR Processing:
- Process AP invoices, prepare journal entries, calculate sales tax, and facilitate payment runs for approval.
- Record credit card transactions and employee expenses to ensure timely payments.
- Maintain AR responsibilities, generate invoices, and address collection issues.
- Reconcile transactions to cash receipts and disbursements, investigating any discrepancies.
Balance Sheet Reconciliation:
- Manage key balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, AP accounts, and AMEX card reconciliations.
- Prepare and reconcile fixed asset continuity schedules, including depreciation entries.
Financial Record Maintenance:
- Ensure all transactions are accurately booked in a timely manner, with sufficient backup documentation.
- Coordinate and post accruals, ensuring appropriate justification and backup are obtained.
Financial Reporting:
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and/or financial statement notes.
- Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with IFRS and company procedures.
Audit Coordination:
- Assist with financial and tax audits, coordinating the audit process.
Stakeholder Liaison:
- Communicate with stakeholders to provide financial support as required (e.g., Project Controls, Procurement, Clients).
Forecasting and Budgeting:
- Track expenses and contribute to data compilation for forecasting and budgeting.
Relationship Management:
- Establish and maintain customer-centric relationships with all stakeholders.
- Maintain respectful and effective communication with management and staff at all levels.
Policy Development and Process Improvement:
- Assist in developing policies and procedures related to financial transactions and controls.
- Contribute to process improvements where necessary.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Finance, Economics, or Accounting.
- +1 years of accounting experience on large-scale infrastructure projects/rail projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to balance and prioritize multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated success working with internal/external stakeholders.
- Broad business knowledge, end-to-end thinking, and organizational awareness.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Capacity to work with urgency and adjust priorities to achieve objectives.
- Strong ability to think creatively, challenge the status quo, navigate ambiguity, and engage with diverse personalities.
- Solid financial acumen and relevant quantitative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of organization.
- Ability to interpret contract documents and communicate effectively to pursuit participants.
- Experience coordinating development of work plans and task sheets against project scope and schedule.
- Reasonable knowledge of OBC and other municipal standards and regulations would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of design and construction of complex geo-structural works
- A strong eye for design details and the ability to coordinate geotechnical and structural design and assist in making design-driven decisions.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Experience on large-scale infrastructure projects/civil engineering projects/rail projects.
- English, written and spoken.
