Position Title: Experienced Bookkeeper (using Quickbooks Online)
Location: 100% Virtual (Work from Home, however, we do require our new bookkeeper to be in the province of Saskatchewan)
Position Type: Part-time (15-20 hours/week to start, with potential for full-time as our firm grows)
About Us:
We’re a growing bookkeeping firm passionate about helping small businesses thrive. Our client base includes non-profits, restaurants, and other service-based businesses. We believe in empowering our clients with clear, accurate financial data and guiding them to make informed decisions.
At our firm, we value autonomy, honesty, and professionalism with personality. We encourage every team member to work in their own zone of genius, allowing them to thrive and contribute their best work. We also believe in no-nonsense communication and know that combining professionalism with a sense of humor—like sharing a laugh or a well-placed gif—helps create an enjoyable and results-driven work environment.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive bookkeeper with strong expertise in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and a deep understanding of bookkeeping theory. This role offers the opportunity to work independently and take full responsibility for client work, from start to finish, each month. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring our clients’ financial data is accurate, insightful, and actionable.
A significant part of this role will involve managing bookkeeping tasks for non-profit and restaurant clients, ensuring their financial records are accurate and up-to-date. If you’re someone who thrives on autonomy, loves solving problems, and is ready to grow alongside our firm, this could be the perfect fit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Full-Cycle Bookkeeping: Manage all aspects of bookkeeping for multiple clients, including reconciliations, adjustments, and ensuring accuracy in financial data.
- Client Communication: Act as the primary contact for assigned clients, responding to inquiries via email and providing updates on their financials while keeping the owner in the loop.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring the numbers tell a clear and accurate story.
- Autonomy and Accountability: Work independently to complete client work each month without relying on supervision. Identify and correct errors, review your own work, and address any discrepancies proactively.
- Follow Established Systems: Use the Pure Bookkeeping System’s detailed task lists and instructional videos to guide your work and ensure consistency.
- Process Improvement: Bring a keen eye for detail to identify opportunities for efficiency and suggest improvements to current processes.
What We’re Looking For:
- Reliability: You consistently follow through on tasks and meet deadlines, ensuring accuracy and trustworthiness in all work.
- Proactivity: You’re skilled at adhering to instructions while also identifying opportunities to improve workflows or suggest innovative ideas.
- Workspace Requirements: Have an existing uninterrupted home office workspace with high-speed internet, a reliable computer, multiple monitors, and preferably a desk and chair. :)
- Personality: You masterfully balance professionalism with friendly candor and demonstrate genuine care for others, even under pressure.
- Technological Skills: Comfort with using tools like Slack, Zoom, Hubdoc and ClickUp in daily workflows to communicate, collaborate, and stay organized. Familiarity is preferred, but these tools can be learned with training and guidance.
- Experience: 2+ years of bookkeeping experience, with strong knowledge of bookkeeping theory and QuickBooks Online proficiency (certification is a plus).
- Knowledge of Profit First: Familiarity with the Profit First methodology is a bonus, as we are a Profit First Certified firm.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to review your work critically and ensure reports are accurate and free from errors.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Confidence in identifying and addressing inconsistencies or unusual entries in financial data.
- Autonomy: Proven ability to manage your workload independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines without hand-holding.
- Communication: Strong written communication skills for emailing clients professionally and clearly.
- Instruction Following: Comfort with following detailed task lists and instructional materials.
