Located within the rolling hills of Northumberland County and bordered by Lake Ontario in the South and Rice Lake in the North, the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand is currently looking to fill the following vacancy:

Municipal Treasurer

Full-Time

$94,837 - $110,947 (2024 Salary Grid range)

Reporting to the CAO/Fire Chief, the main purpose of this position is to perform the statutory duties of the Municipal Treasurer as the Chief Financial Officer, with responsibility for the overseeing of all monetary activities of the municipality, ensuring sound accounting principles in providing, collecting and managing funds and accounts and providing qualified and knowledgeable advice to the Council and Municipal Staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:

· Executes all tasks of the Municipal Treasurer as defined in the Municipal Act or relevant legislation;

· Coordinates and prepares the annual operating and capital budget of the municipality in cooperation with municipal department heads and present the proposed budget to the Chief Administrative Officer, then, in turn, to the Municipal Council for approval;

· Ensures that budgetary controls are in place and must provide monthly financial reports outlining “budget versus actual” in respect to all accounts and explain any variances to Municipal Council and Department Heads;

· Monitor financial performance on departments, on a monthly basis, regarding their departmental budget; initiation of corrective action as deemed necessary in cooperation with the Chief Administrative Officer;

· Prepares applicable or relevant financial by-laws for Council approval;

· Prepares, coordinates and reports all financial activities related to municipal grants

Qualifications & Skills:

· Possesses a University Degree or College Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field of study;

· Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation from Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario is required;

· CMO (Certified Municipal Officer) AOMC (Accredited Ontario Municipal Clerk) and/or CMM (Certified Municipal Manager) designation is an asset.

· A minimum of ten (10) years experience in accounting with at least five (5) in a supervisory role or equivalent financial experience in the private sector.

Hours Of Work:The normal workweek consists of 35 hours; Monday to Friday; 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with a ½ hour unpaid lunch.
