ABOUT TAKLA FIRST NATION:

The traditional territory of the Takla First Nation is located in North Central British Columbia and totals approximately 27,250 square kilometers. The territory is a rich environment of lakes, rivers, forests, and mountains, bordered on the west by the Skeena Mountains and on the east by the Rocky Mountains. Takla Nation is an amalgamation of the North Takla Band and the Fort Connelly Band, a union which occurred in 1959. Our traditional lands are the geographic area occupied by our ancestors for community, social, economic, and spiritual purposes. Carrier and Sekani place names exist for every physical feature and place that we occupy. Each name reflects the significance of the feature or site and today provides us with historical information about the rich history and extensive knowledge of our land and resources.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the Finance Manager, the Operations Accountant supports the Nation’s Finance department and its financial accounting and reporting activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in ensuring accurate data in the General Ledger
Reconcile accounts and resolve issues as necessary
Assist in developing Revenue tracking systems
Assist in maintaining Capital expenditures tracking
Assist in month-end procedures and reporting
Assist in reconciling sub-ledgers
Support Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Receivables as necessary
Support year-end operations, including audit preparation
Perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Supervisor.

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Collaborate and support all operating departments within the Nation
Foster positive working relationships with management, the Chief and Council, and other stakeholders

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Good knowledge of general accounting principles
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Exceptional organizational and time management skills
Demonstrated honesty, integrity, and ability to take initiative
Ability to build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
Computer literacy with knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe, Adagio, Sage, or other Accounting Software

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Business or comparable experience
Minimum of five (5) years of accounting and/or bookkeeping experience in a similar capacity is preferred
Enrolled in or intending to enroll in the CPA program

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Successfully undergo a criminal records review and police record check
