Fernlea Flowers Ltd. is a rapidly growing North American grower and supplier of high-quality garden and potted plants with the head office located between Tillsonburg and Delhi, Ontario, and multiple locations in the USA.

The opportunity:

We are looking for a highly-skilled Assistant Controller to assist with managing the company’s day-to-day accounting functions. This is an excellent opportunity for a designated finance professional who is positive, driven and willing to take on projects to completion. By working alongside the existing Controller and Chief Financial Officer, it’s expected the incumbent will gain the necessary skills and experience to assume the role of Financial Controller within two years. This position will report to the Financial Controller.

Responsibilities:

The Assistant Controller supports the accuracy and completeness of the monthly financial reporting at the legal entity and consolidated levels.

Assist in the preparation of financial statements
Preparation of audit working schedules and reconciliations
Preparation of monthly general ledger account reconciliations
Processing journal entries
Bank reconciliations
Reconciliation of subledger accounts to general ledger

· Sales Tax and other statutory reporting, remittance and compliance

· Maintain accounting policy and procedures documentation

· Managing and coordinating ad hoc projects

· Keep up to date on Canadian IFRS and US GAAP

· Assist the Finance team with other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

CPA or nearing completion of CPA
Minimum 4 years of accounting experience in a diverse financial environment
Have strong financial and management reporting skills, proven analytical skills and ability to collaborative with other team members
Bachelor's degree, Business or Accounting preferred
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple priorities
Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel and related accounting business systems

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $80,000.00 per year
