We are currently looking for an Accountant to join Desco and be part of our dynamic team in our Head Office located in Mississauga, ON.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Controller, this position is focused on daily and monthly accounting functions, financial reporting, reconciliation, budgeting and analysis.

Reconcile and verify all cash sales, including debit and credit card transactions from branches, ensuring they match with bank deposits.
Monitor daily transactions in the RBC bank account to reconcile both Canadian and USD accounts on a monthly basis.
Input and update cash flow data for the weekly cash flow projection report.
Record cashed cheques in Mincron to generate a monthly listing of outstanding cheques.
Compile and process the bi-weekly expense report payment form. Upon receiving authorization from the Controller, submit it to GDI payroll for payment processing. Create a Journal Entry monthly to record these transactions, and scan all expense reports and related documents.
Maintain and update a detailed Excel spreadsheet tracking Fixed Assets purchases, balancing them with the General Ledger. Calculate and apply monthly depreciation and amortization according to company guidelines.
Prepare and compile monthly journal entries, ensuring all necessary back-up documentation from Mincron or Excel spreadsheets is included, and complete month-end work promptly to meet closing deadlines.
Reconcile specific General Ledger accounts monthly.
Analyze, compile, and issue various reports requested by managers, GDI, and CIPH on a monthly basis.
Assist the Controller and Senior Accountant with the annual budgeting process, focusing on areas such as depreciation, rental costs, and promotional expenses.
For September and December month-ends, assist the Senior Accountant in assembling a financial binder that includes reconciliations for all Balance Sheets accounts, along with the necessary back-up documentation.
Serve as a back-up to the Senior Accountant and Accounts Payable personnel during vacations and absences
Other tasks and functions, as assigned by the Controller.

WHAT YOU OFFER

Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Accounting.
CPA student.
Minimum 1-2 years related Accounting skills (General Ledger, Journal Entries, report creation).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
Strong attention to detail,
Strong Excel skills (Pivot tables, V-lookup, etc.).
